World Cancer Day 2017

Saturday 4th February 2017 is World Cancer Day. The event aims to raise awareness of cancer and encourage the prevention, detection and treatment. The primary goal of the World Cancer Day is to significantly reduce illness and death caused by cancer by 2020.

Globally, approximately 8.2 million people die from cancer annually. On World Cancer Day, events are held around the world to raise money and awareness. The latest ‘Map of Impact‘ shows events in the UK, South Africa, Mauritius, Iceland, Chile and many other countries.

Most families are touched by cancer at some time. With people living longer, the number of people affected by cancer grows. Also, modern-day unhealthy lifestyles are driving up the rates of cancer. Obesity, smoking, alcohol and unfit living being singled out as primary culprits.

Sadly, cancer can strike anyone at anytime. At present, the son of singer Michael Buble is being treated for cancer and recent reports on the BBC indicate that the treatment is ‘progressing well’. BBC Record Breaker’s Roy Castle died from lung cancer despite never smoking and after his death the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation was launched.

At Health Insure Wales, we help people who need cancer treatment. Recently we have written blogs discussing cancer issues including ‘Dealing with Cancer explained in AXA PPP Healthcare Videos‘. This series of brilliantly scripted and acted videos show how people talk about cancer.
