Private Health Care Underpinning NHS during Pandemic

The Covid-19 pandemic has placed an incredible strain on the NHS.  Despite that pressure, the care given by the NHS to people struck down by the virus has been world-leading.  However, there are many long-term implications of the pandemic on the NHS, with delayed treatments and extended waiting lists.

The unprecedented speed of vaccination delivery in the UK and the ongoing social mixing restrictions are reducing infection rates and hospitalisations.  However, the number of people infected with Covid-19 requiring medical intervention remains high.  Presently, it is simply not possible to determine when, or if, life will return to that experienced pre-Covid.

For many, Private Health Care and Medical Insurance has never been more valuable.  People who have taken out their own policies or employees who have such insurance as part of their contract, are using their schemes to have treatment without increasing the burden on the NHS.  Indeed, as the private sector delivers treatment, the number of people requiring care through the NHS reduces.

It is important to note that private medical providers have always underpinned the care and treatment provided by the NHS.  People are able to access a wide range of medical treatments, many often life-changing.  Such demands on the private medical sector are envisaged to rise throughout 2021 and into 2022.

Many medical industry experts believe that the way the UK delivers medical care has now changed forever.  The pandemic exposed the difficulties already being faced by the NHS.  A combined NHS and private sector solution is considered as the only viable long-term solution.
