Dealing with Cancer Explained in AXA PPP Healthcare Videos

The word ‘Cancer’ can strike terror into the heart of anyone. It is one of those words that people tend to speak in a whisper in the middle of a sentence.

In a Statistics fact sheet produced by Macmillan in January 2015, they state that there were 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK in 2015 and this was expected to rise to 4 million by 2030. The prediction was that 1000 people would be diagnosed with cancer every day by the end of 2016.

The report also states that people now live nearly ten times longer after their cancer diagnosis compared to 40 years. Indeed, half of people diagnosed with cancer in England and Wales in 2010-2011 are predicted to survive their disease for at least ten years.

Cancer Research UK spent £376 million on life-saving research in 2015/16. In the UK, the amount of resource committed to fighting cancer has never been higher.

However, the word ‘Cancer’ can still terrifying.

AXA PPP Healthcare has produced a series of #LetsSpeakCancer videos about dealing with cancer. Some of the videos are cringe-worthy on a scale only seen on the Ricky Gervais TV comedy ‘The Office’. They highlight the bumbling awkwardness of friends, work colleagues, and even family members as they talk to someone who is having treatment for cancer.

The videos promote a cancer support network offered by AXA. AXA has a team of dedicated cancer nurses who provide members with one-to-one support. The nurses are there to listen and answer any questions about a wide range of topics such as chemotherapy, prostate cancer and bowel cancer.
