The Increasing Number of Cancelled Operations

A BBC news report has highlighted the growing problem of cancelled operations in NHS hospitals. In fact, patients in Wales have a one in four chance of an operation being cancelled for one reason or another.

The report looked specifically at the Aneurin Bevan Health Board, which includes the Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport and the Nevill Hall Hospital in Abergavenny. In this area, 30% of operations were cancelled because ward beds were unavailable. This peaks during winter months, especially January through to March.

Another 18% were cancelled due to staff unavailability, with 12% due to the lack of equipment.

The growing NHS crisis shows no sign of resolution and the ongoing dispute between the Government and Junior Doctors will only put further pressure of the straining system. Many medical professionals are very concerned about how the NHS will cope during the forthcoming winter.

Private medical insurance (PMI) will take some of the strain with an increasing number of people taking control of their health care. Many people want to ensure that they will be able to get care and an operation quickly and without delay. At present, many people are concerned that by replying on the NHS, any treatment will be prolonged and may effect their recovery.

There is no simple answer to the problem faced by the NHS. And Private Medical Insurance is providing people the comfort of knowing that they will get treatment when they need it.
